Honey prospects poor

Alf Brugman Beekeeping Blog

This season is shaping up to be similar to last in that there do not seem to be many prospects for eucalyptus trees flowering. Grey box ( Eucalyptus microcarpa ) is not showing any new growth at this stage and if this doesn’t change soon there will not be honey from one of our main sources. Red Ironbark ( Eucalyptus sideroxylon) has no budding and there is very little on Yellow Box ( Eucalyptus melliodora ) and Messmate Stringybark ( Eucalyptus oblique). Let’s home we can find some species yielding nectar in the next few months or the honey shortage will continue.
